On the Build Site Age Restrictions

While North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity loves to have volunteers on the build site, there are a few rules for everyone’s safety.  Habitat International has set in place age regulations for children on the build site. Here is the break down.

Ages 18 & up: Can work with no restrictions

Ages 16 & 17: Can preform general construction but are prohibited from any activity that includes power tools, demolition, roofing, or excavation.

Ages 14 &15: Can be on the build site but are prohibited from the site while construction is happening. They may be able to help on limited assignments such as painting, landscaping, clearing lots, etc.

Ages 13 & under: They may not be on the build site. This is for their own safety.

If the volunteer is under 18, an adult needs to be on site with them; parent, guardian, or group leader.  These restrictions are set in place for the safety of everyone involved.

Other items to remember on the build site:

· When you get to the build site YOU MUST SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY before you are able to do anything on the build site.  You only need to fill out the waiver once a year. We do require parental permission for those under 18.  To view the waiver and/or to have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver, click here.  When you leave, we ask that you sign out as well.

· You will be on an active work site. This means you must wear closed toe shoes, you most likely will get dirty, and be aware of your surroundings for your safety and those around you.

· One of the most important things you need to remember while you are on the build site is to HAVE FUN!
